Meet The Owner
Nikola Maharajh opened Commonwealth Kitchen & Bar in April 2024. In the creation of Commonwealth, his goal was to implement elements of all of his favorite places across the city. That is why you will find gelato from Nucci’s, espresso from Colosimo, beer from Trans Canada Brewing, and dishes from Mandel at Deer & Almond and Calvin at Kyu.
He wanted to not only implement delicious food, but a thriving nightlife. Previously, Nikola was a partner at 441 Main, a nightclub which closed during the 2020 lockdowns. Reopening Commonwealth was a way he wanted to contribute to Winnipeg’s nightlife scene in a more mature setting once again.
When he’s not working in Commonwealth, he is typically found reading, playing chess, working out, hanging out with friends, or eating at some of the other incredible restaurants across the city.
